After several weeks of delays following the former Murder Inc Princess, Ashanti contracting the Covid-19 virus…  not to mention some technical difficulties and a late start on Thursday. The Long Islander and Oakland native, Keyshia Cole finally faced off for their long awaited #Verzuz battle on Thursday evening.

While some folks seemed unaware that it was actually taking place after all…. and some altogether over it after numerous false starts, the gorgeous and multi-award winning R&B songstresses came through bringing all the early 2000’s bops we didn’t even know we needed. 

However #BlackTwitter wasn’t all too thrilled when it came to the ladies lack of promptness which made for a late night.  At one point Ashanti laughingly called herself the “host” while waiting on Cole to arrive, while donning on a sleek black blazer set and diamond rosary. On Cole’s arrival she rocked a similar long jet black hairstyle and all black fashions in a strapless fitted dress.

 Despite my feelings being that there were far better match ups for the two ladies…. ergo Ashanti vs Mya  or Keyshia versus K Michelle, the Libra goddesses did not disappoint and faced off going down their catalog of platinum selling records and matched each other’s energy. Getting right to business, Cole kicked it off with “Changed My Mind” and Ashanti countered with “Happy”. Notwithstanding some choppy audio intermittently and some stale energy until they found their rhythm, the ladies brought in over 1.2 M viewers playing hits like “Happy”, “Aww Baby, Rock With You”,  “I Should Have Cheated”, “Playa Cardz Right”, Love and more.

While I have my own opinions on who’s records and bodies of work will continue to withstand the test of time and age gracefully…we learned that these two are both equally talented and ready for the road when the world opens back up!
